Abstract

Markus Gabriel (Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, 1980), also called l'enfant terrible, is a German philosopher specializing in epistemology, philosophy of mind, metaphysics and contemporary philosophy. Studied at the universities of Bonn and Heidelberg. He holds the chair of
Epistemology, Modern and Contemporary Philosophy since 2009 in University of Bonn, where he also directs the International Centre of Philosophy. Gabriel is one of the main representatives of the so-called Nuevo Realism, a philosophical current that seeks to overcome both relativism and the post-modern constructivism as well as naturalistic reductionism. His thought holds that there are multiple domains or "fields of meaning", but denies that there is a single area that can contain and explain the totality of reality. This thesis constitutes the starting point de Why the world doesn’t exist (Warum es die Welt nicht gibt), which is a work of philosophy of a popularized character.
