From the Tower of Babel to Jerusalem: Idolatry, Ideologization, and Deiformation in a Zubirian Hermeneutics of Magnifica Humanitas

The present work seeks, from a Zubirian hermeneutics of Magnifica Humanitas, to
discern the path of liberation and reconstruction of the human in the digital age. From the proposals of Leo XIV, who is rooted in the Social Doctrine of the Church, the author highlights the call to the humanization of history through the deiformation of the human being. The pope’s proposal is that Christians, and humanity in general, must choose between two paths: the absolutization of technology—specifically Artificial Intelligence—or the reconstruction of humanity. To this end, he employs the figures of the Tower of Babel and Nehemiah, who rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem. The Babel syndrome represents the negativity of technological progress, when falsehood proliferates as truth, subjecting and ideologizing the great majorities. In contrast, the overcoming of this syndrome lies in the project of reconstructing Jerusalem, a metaphor
of the Kingdom of God as the reconstruction of the human; that is, the humanization attained through deiformation, which finds its origin in the mystery of the Incarnation of Christ.
