Drawing on the images of the moment of the death of Monsignor Romero and of Ignacio Ellacuría and his companions, the article presents the relationship between liturgy and martyrdom in its systematic development as an existential and ritual participation in the death of Christ and as a definitive configuration with Him. Taking into account the tradition (the Acts of the Martyrs), it also analyzes the proper liturgical texts of Saint Óscar A. Romero.
