Abstract

This article analyzes the evolution of the prophetic function of the Catholic Church, beginning with the reforms of the Second Vatican Council and its commitment to social reality. The author examines how Pope Francis deepens this vision in the apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, which serves as a call to denounce injustice and to proclaim the Kingdom of God. Synodality is highlighted as the key institutional mechanism for listening to the sensus fidei, acknowledging that all the baptized possess an essential prophetic voice. The study emphasizes that the Church’s mission requires discernment of the signs of the times in order to transform structures of exclusion and poverty. Finally, it proposes that this theological foundation be used to evaluate and improve current pastoral plans from a more participatory and solidarity- based perspective.
